Just sitting her thinking as for the next couple of weeks I'm off so that will give me lots of time to get things together for this site.
I was looking at a lot of sports shows mainly about football and political shows discussing the upcoming elections and I was reminded of an old saying of my mothers that didn't make much sense to me at the time. She would say to me “son that just makes my ass want to chew gum” and I would think to myself “what the heck does that mean?” Well I can now answer that question. It's that feeling that you get when you hear or see something that just does not make any kind of sense, or when people do things that are totally against their best interests. My three choices this weekend are a football play, a football coach and the “greatest basketball player ever”.
The Play... Green Bay kind of got screwed in a game they were playing by a possibly bad call. Now even though I can see why the ump might have made this call what makes my “ass want to chew gum” is not the call itself or the game for that matter but the reaction it got. The fact that one of the most important things in a persons life is a football game. One of the most divisive games in the world in terms of team rivalries and absolutely different ideas and opinions With that one call a huge hue and cry ensued from the people over the disputed call that resulted in the end of a labor dispute that was resolved fairly and equitably for both sides. Yet when it comes to things that effect your very livelihood...precious freedoms being taken away... unemployment and underemployment....people working 2 or three jobs just to make ends meet and being told lie after lie by the politician who claim to have our best interests at heart ...we stand silently by and do nothing. Wow.
The coach...Every time the talking heads on sports radio and TV start talking about the greatest college football coaches you will hear the names Bryant, Paterno, and Rockne. Eddie Robertson and a host of other black coaches are not mentioned. Big mistake. They even have a lot of black commentators making the same kind of comments “Robertson’s records are minor because they were made in minor conferences” Well let's go back to that time shall we? The 40,s 50,s 60,s and 70,s Black colleges were the only places where black players could play. They were no big colleges that would take either black players or black coaches. Robertson never won a national championship because his teams were never allowed to compete. So don't tell me that he would not have won because there was plenty of talent and ambition to win many times over. The NFL was built on this talent. So it really makes my ass want to chew gum when I hear this especially coming from Blacks.
The greatest...This is about Michael Jordan. People he did not invent winning. It just makes my ass want to chew gum when I hear this. He is not the greatest basketball player ever. One of the greatest sure just not the greatest. I sure Masters Russell, Chamberlain, Bird ,Irvin and Johnson would like to talk about that. Having seen these guys play I would have to agree with them. All these guys were great on their own and in their own way and they were just as good as Jordan.
Well that's my rant for today until next time don't be shy reply
